Challenges - Monopoly Bike Ride

CYCLE LONDON'S REAL ‘MONOPOLY’ BOARD FOR CHARITY!

You’ve all played Monopoly, but can you say you’ve ridden it? On the 7th September 2003, hundreds of cyclists will be taking to the streets of London to cycle their way around the real Monopoly board, helping raise vital funds for Norwood, the Down’s Syndrome Association (DSA) and Capital FM’s Help A London Child (HALC).

The course is almost completely flat, making it ideal for novice and experienced cyclists alike. The true-to-the-game route takes the rider across nearly twenty miles of London’s most famous landmarks including the London Eye, Admiralty Arch, Big Ben, St. Katherine's Dock and Tower Bridge.

Familiar Monopoly Board squares incorporated along the way include Euston and Whitechapel Road, Fleet Street, The Strand, Northumberland Avenue, Trafalgar and Leicester Square as well as King’s Cross, Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street stations.

Supporting the Monopoly Bike Ride, Capital Radio's Chris Tarrant comments: "The Monopoly Bike Ride is a fantastic and unique opportunity to experience all the famous sites of London, AND raise money for three deserving charities – get on your bike and register to pass ‘GO’!"

Property Week is the principal sponsor of the Monopoly Bike Ride. Warwick Smith, Associate Publisher of Property Week explains: “As well as being a great day out, cycling the Monopoly board is a fantastic way to safeguard the future of many vulnerable youngsters and people with learning disabilities. They all rely on the work of Norwood, the Down’s Syndrome Association and Capital FM’s Help a London Child Appeal for the special kind of support they need. Property Week is delighted to be associated with this event and we’d encourage all Londoners to take part in the Monopoly Bike Ride. There’s nothing else like it around!”

The event is a ‘must’ for anyone involved in property or other associated industries, and the benefiting charities are encouraging businesses across London to enter corporate teams. Mark Pollack of Property company, Aston Chase comments: "Taking part in the Monopoly Bike Ride is a great way to see Central London and raise money for such worthwhile causes at the same time.”

And Anthony Angel, Managing Partner of leading London law firm Linklaters comments: "I think the Monopoly Ride is a terrific event. What could be better than cycling the sights of London and at the same time raising funds to support three great children's charities."

Cyclists can start the ride between 8:00am and 9:30am at Marylebone Station, going at a pace that suits them. En-route, riders will get their own set of Monopoly site cards detailing the ride route.

The Monopoly Bike Ride coincides with the famous Regent Street Carnival, whose chosen charity this year is HALC. Participants will be able to ride parts of the carnival route and soak up the carnival fun whilst cycling along normally restricted or pedestrian-only areas such as Carnaby Street.

As well as being a fun, healthy and educational day out, cycling the Monopoly board is a great way to safeguard the future of many vulnerable youngsters and people of all ages with learning disabilities. Organisers of the Monopoly Bike Ride, Norwood, are one of the UK’s leading children & family services organisations supporting thousands of children, families and adults coping with learning disabilities and social disadvantage.

In order to pass ‘GO’, riders are being encouraged to raise a minimum of £200 in sponsorship. There is a small registration fee of £20 for adults and £10 for students, which includes a free T-Shirt, free parking, route map and free refreshments - there's no better way to help those who need it most and Stretch Yourself For Good!

Companies are also being encouraged to sponsor a site on the board in exchange for a number of advertising benefits.
