  • Free gym membership for Norwood’s International Challenges fundraisers The Village Health Club in Elstree is offering free gym membership to fundraisers who sign up to participate in Norwood’s International Challenges this year.
  • Great Grandmother Powers up again for Norwood Flora Frank, a power-walking great-grandmother from Edgware, completed the 32nd International Tiberias Marathon in Israel on January 8.
  • Norwood launches Swimathon for High Schools Norwood will stage its first-ever High School Swimathon on 19 February where participants can take to the water with a splash, and swim 1.5km or 2.5km while raising funds for Norwood.
  • Flora set to complete 20th marathon and 525th mile in aid of Norwood A 66-year-old great-grandmother from Edgware, north London, is set to complete her 20th marathon in aid of Norwood when she takes part in the 33rd Tiberias Marathon in Israel on 7 January, 2010.
  • Rajasthan Bike Ride raises £600,000 for Norwood A group of 150 charity cyclists returned to the UK from northern India on Sunday after raising an incredible £600,000 on Norwood’s Rajasthan Bike Ride.
  • Israel Bike Ride raises more than £60,000 for Norwood Some 26 charity cyclists returned to the UK on Sunday tired but elated after raising more than £60,000 on Norwood’s Israel Bike Ride. During the course of the week, they completed a stunning 400km circular route which started and finished in the ancient and beautiful city of Jerusalem after winding its way through the Judean Hills, the Negev Highlands and the Dead Sea.
  • Get on your bike for Norwood, urges Maccabiah medal winner Danny Ackerman, a British medal hero at the recent Maccabiah Games is calling on cycling enthusiasts to get on their bikes to raise money for Norwood during its Israel Bike Ride, which will be held from 17-25 October 2009. The stunning circular 400km route starts and finishes in Jerusalem and takes in the Judean Hills, the Negev Highlands and the Dead Sea.
  • Cyclists ride from Capital to Coast raising £300,000 for charity More than 1,600 cyclists got in gear to raise £300,000 during the Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge for Charity in high temperatures yesterday (Sunday).
  • Move to Herts raises record £40,000 for Norwood’s Junior Bike Ride Almost 500 cyclists used their pedal power to kick off Learning Disability Week by raising a record-breaking £40,000 for Norwood at its annual Junior Bike Ride held on Father’s Day, Sunday 21 June 2009 in Elstree. Previously the event was in Berkshire but the ride was held in Hertfordshire this year to make it more accessible to young riders in North West London.
  • Marathon heroes raise £80,000 for Norwood Norwood’s 24 runners ran the 26.2 miles of the Flora London Marathon 2009 in the glorious sunshine yesterday, raising £80,000 for the leading children and families charity. The charity had the largest number of runners of all the Jewish community charities taking part in the event and international participants included a cowgirl who had flown over from Wyoming to take part, as well as 65 year-old power-walking great-grandmother from Edgware, Flora Frank.
  • Record-breaking 400 riders for Norwood’s Junior Bike Ride Challenge Over 400 participants from London, Essex and Hertfordshire are taking part in Norwood’s annual Junior Bike Ride and there’s still time for more riders to sign-up. The 10-mile off-road adventure for children and teenagers aged 7 – 14 and their families, will be held on Father’s Day, Sunday 21 June on private terrain in Elstree, Hertfordshire.
  • 1300 riders geared up for Capital to Coast Over 1300 riders have already signed up for the Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge for Charity, the fun ride of the summer which takes place on Sunday 28 June. The beautifully scenic route to the sparkling Hove seafront will be lined with experienced stewards, free refreshments and mechanical support all along the way.   • Local Wise guy takes up Olympian Cycle Challenge Finchley cyclist, Justin Wise, will be taking up a challenge set by Olympic cyclist, Bradley Wiggins and Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, to cycle 60 miles from London to Hove this year in the 14th Capital to Coast Cycle Challenge. It’s the sponsored charity fun ride of the summer, which takes place on Sunday 28 June.
  • Walkers raise £10,000 for Norwood More than 80 people of all ages and abilities enjoyed the sunshine as they took part in Norwood’s annual Waterside Walk which raised over £10,000 for the leading Jewish charity in the UK supporting children, adults and families coping with learning disability or social disadvantage.

  • Backgammon tournament raises over £50,000 for Norwood Norwood’s Backgammon Series 3, which culminated in the Grand Final at luxurious restaurant Sketch in Central London on Monday 26 January, raised a total over £50,000 for the charity.

The event was held on Monday, 23 November, at Home House, an exclusive private members club in the West End.
  • Chanukah starts with Norwood’s Toy Sweep There was an atmosphere of feverish excitement at Toys R Us in Brent Cross on Sunday 29 November, when 40 children from across Norwood’s services took part in the Charity’s annual Toy Sweep. In one action-packed hour on Sunday morning, the £4,000 raised by the Toy Sweep Committee, was spent on games, CDs, DVDs, art materials, books and toys for Norwood’s Children’s Services.
  • ‘Cantor Joseph Malovany – an Evening of Song’ raises £19,000 for Norwood Cantor Joseph Malovany raised the roof of the Western Marble Arch Synagogue as he helped raise an incredible £19,000 for Norwood during a one-off concert on Saturday. Nearly 290 guests braved wet and windy weather and West End traffic to hear the world-famous chazzan, who kindly donated his time and talent in aid of the Charity, which supports thousands of people with learning disabilities and children and families in need.
  • Ronnie Corbett steps in to help Norwood raise £2.7 million Norwood’s Annual Dinner proved last night to be a truly a life-changing event for all involved, raising an amazing £2.7 million. Comedy legend Ronnie Corbett, who gallantly stepped in to fill Bruce Forsyth’s shoes after he was taken ill with flu, headlined the entertainment bill for the 1,200 guests at what was the Charity’s largest ever fundraising event.   • Norwood art sells for record prices in Camden Talented artists helped Norwood to raise over £13,000 at the Charity’s inaugural art show on Tuesday evening. Seventy works of art were snapped up at the private viewing at the Centro Bar in Camden, which was attended by 150 guests.

  • Norwood thanks Patrons with a private view at Halcyon Gallery Norwood thanked Patrons and YN Patrons for their generous support at the annual Cocktail Party. Nearly 200 dedicated donors, who include some of the most influential members of the community, attended the party.

  • Max snaps up national photographic prize after entry wows judges A creative teenager with complex learning disabilities is snap happy after a stunning self-portrait earned him a runners-up spot in a national photographic competition. Max Goulde, 18, who has benefitted from Norwood’s services throughout his life, has virtually no voluntary movement, is cortically blind and is unable to communicate verbally.   • Norwood wins website ‘MOT’ in Cogapp competition Norwood has won the equivalent of an MOT for its website after entering a third sector competition run by Cogapp, a firm which specialises in digital media and user experience. The Charity, which supports people with learning disabilities and children and families in need, will now receive free consultancy about how to improve the effectiveness of its online presence.

  • Norwood receives £120,000 to run Time 4 U holiday play-scheme project Norwood is celebrating the receipt of a £120,000 grant to run a new project called Time 4 U, which offers children and young people with disabilities the opportunity to access holiday play schemes and home support during the half term holidays.
  • Norwood’s Annual Review showcased in Oxford Guide to Plain English Norwood has been recognised for its use of plain English by being featured in the latest edition of Oxford Guide to Plain English.   • Norwood and The London Jewish Family Centre become Barnet's 14th Sure Start Children's Centre Today, Norwood’s Kennedy Leigh Children & Family Centre and the London Jewish Family Centre became the 14th Sure Start Children’s Centre and the first Jewish organisations in Barnet to receive this designation in the London Borough of Barnet. This recognises the expertise and services provided by the voluntary agencies, in helping children and young people lead healthy, safe and fulfilling lives.

  • It’s party time as Norwood’s adoption team hosts a special event for children and parents More than 50 children who have been adopted through Norwood were guests of honour at a special party thrown by the Charity’s adoption team. The party, which is an annual event, was held on Sunday, 6 September, at Brookland Infant and Junior School, in Hampstead Garden Suburb and was, once again, kindly donated by one of Norwood’s very generous donors..

  • Norwood presents The Magical World of Unity at artsdepot Thrilled audience members were taken on a tour through The Magical World of Unity as Norwood staged a unique performing arts project at artsdepot in North Finchley on Thursday, 27 August. The one-off show is a first for Unity, which is Norwood’s recreational service for children and young people with disabilities.
  • Labour Friends of Israel get creative at Buckets & Spades Lodge Last week, the Labour Friends of Israel (LFI) team got creative when they volunteered to give a makeover to the playhouse at Buckets & Spade Lodge, Norwood’s respite care centre for young people with disabilities in Finchley. The LFI employees took time out from their work to promote bilateral relations between Britain and Israel to volunteer for Norwood for the day.

  • Ravenswood team win more than 30 medals at the Special Olympics Sporty residents from Norwood’s residential community at Ravenswood in Berkshire are celebrating after winning an incredible 31 medals at the Special Olympics. A team of 32 athletes made the journey from Crowthorne to Leicester last week for the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games.
  • David Cameron opens new autism Centre for Norwood Today, The Right Honorable David Cameron MP marked national Learning Disability Week by officially opening The Tager Centre, a new residential centre for 16 adults with autism. The Centre is part of Ravenswood, a residential community in Berkshire, which is run by Norwood, a leading UK charity providing support to children, families and adults with social disadvantage or learning disabilities from the Jewish community and beyond.

  • YN Lawyers Reception 2008 Top QC David Pannnick was the special guest speaker at Norwood's annual YN Lawyers Reception. The evening was attended by nearly 250 young legal professionals and raised £26,000.
  • The Apprentice 2008 Lee McQueen, 'The Apprentice' Series Four winner, plus five fellow contestants ensured a sell-out fundraising evening in aid of Norwood. The event, attended by over 330 guests, was hosted by Emma Howard and featured the show’s executive producer Michele Kurland, raising over £26,000.
