Candice makes a splash for Norwood

Junior Swimathon

A kind-hearted schoolgirl who organised a swimathon in aid of Norwood has raised an amazing £9,000 for the Charity. Candice Tucker, 11, from St John’s Wood, invited 52 of her friends to take part in the fundraising event, which was kindly hosted by Francis Holland School in Clarence Gate. All the money raised at the swimathon, held on Sunday, 16 May, will help Norwood to continue providing a range of life-changing services for people with learning disabilities and children and families in need.

Candice’s mum Alexandra said: “It was a fantastic success and we are all very proud of Candice. She took it very seriously and worked extremely hard to organise the swimathon. She must have made hundreds of phone calls to make sure that people took part.

Candice added: “Before my Bat mitzvah, I wanted to do something special for others. I think it’s great that my friends and I can help other children who may not have the same advantages. That’s why a charity like Norwood is so important.”

Candice, a pupil at St Christopher’s School in Hampstead, follows in the footsteps of her older brother Michael, who at the same age also organised swimathons in aid of Norwood.

Adele Breslauer, Norwood’s Head of Fundraising, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and we are very grateful to Candice and her friends for raising so much money for Norwood’s work. It was a wonderful day and it was great so see so many young people using their free time for the benefit of others.”
