Beverley was born and brought up in Liverpool and attended King David High School. She read law at Leeds University and then qualified as a barrister and then some years later as a solicitor.
More recently Beverley obtained an MA in Medical Law and Ethics from Kings College London. She has worked for many years as a government lawyer and in private practise specialising in representing people who lack capacity to represent themselves. She also spent 8 years as a law lecturer at Middlesex University.
Beverley lectures widely on her work and on the Mental Capacity Act 2005. She is co-author of a book on Mental Capacity Act 2005 published by the Law Society in November 2005. She has been involved in a voluntary capacity with Norwood and Ravenswood for the last 23 years. She recently took part in a docu-drama entitled 'Richard is my boyfriend' shown on Channel 4 about the ethical and legal dilemmas surrounding the sterilisation of a learning disabled adult.
Beverley is a Trustee of Norwood and a member of the Operational Services Committee with lay responsibility for the adult service at Ravenswood Village.
