Norwood's Archive

Norwood OrphanageWith such a long history of caring for millions of people, it is no surprise to learn that that Norwood has accumulated thousands documents, both valuable and personal.

Under UK legislation adopted people can access information about their origins, family background and the circumstances of their adoption.

In addition Norwood holds records relating to the Norwood Home for Jewish Children (The Jewish Orphanage) as well as the many services it has provided through the years for both adults and children.

As a consequence one of the most common searches that we undertake is for former service users, or their families, trying to piece together something about their past.

It should be noted however that access to certain records comes under the framework of the Data Protection Act. As a result there may be restrictions on what may be disclosed.

Other types of searches that we have undertaken in the past include research into the Jewish Community and more general research relating to changes in child and adult care through the years.
