Jake and Hannah’s Story

Rosh Hashanah appeal: Jake and Hannah's storyHannah became introverted and depressed and Jake’s challenging behaviour led to his exclusion from school. Their parents were unable to cope and in desperation, they sought help and were referred to a Norwood social worker.

She identified other issues contributing to the deterioration in the children’s behaviour which included Jake’s dyspraxia and Hannah’s low self-esteem, a result of the constant bullying she was experiencing at school.

In consultation with Binoh, Norwood’s education and therapy service, a new school placement and a statement of special needs was obtained for Jake and Hannah was counselled to develop the confidence to stand up for herself.

Norwood’s social worker also supported the parents, helping to develop strong parenting skills to address their extremely difficult family relationships. This increased their confidence, enabled them to access the benefits to which they were entitled and helped them in their search for employment.

Their mother said: “You have saved our family from financial disaster and helped us to become better parents. Our family now communicates clearly and with respect for each other. This could only have happened with Norwood’s support.”
