Fychi's Story

Fychi's StoryHer mother died when she was five, leaving her father alone to cope with 8 children. When he remarried and moved abroad, Fychi was placed in a residential home in London that subsequently closed down. The Local Authority contacted Norwood who immediately found her foster carers for a two-week emergency placement. Seven years later, the emergency placement with the Meshulam family has become a permanent home. The Meshulam family have opened their hearts and their home to provide Fychi with a safe, secure and loving family life where she is looked after as part of the family.

Sadly, as expected, Fychi’s condition has deteriorated considerably, and her foster family now have to do everything for her. In 2002, she needed two spinal fusion operations to help with her scoliosis, and she now has a gastro feeding tube. Her foster mother was continuously at Fychi’s side during the many days and nights at the hospital, giving her the care and encouragement she needed to aid her recovery. Last year, the family home was extended to incorporate a purpose-built ground floor facility, which incorporates specialised equipment needed for Fychi’s personal care.

The family is totally devoted to Fychi and her wellbeing, and Norwood has supported them every step of the way and will continue to be there for the whole family for as long as they need us.
