To achieve this, Educational Psychologists work at a number of different levels including working with individual children - but just as importantly, working with parents, teachers, and other agencies, for example professionals within the LEAs and NHS.
Educational Psychologists are also trained to work at an organisational level, and need to have a thorough knowledge of current educational legislation and practice.
It is always the aim of the Educational Psychologist to gain an understanding of the whole child, including the context in which the child is functioning, and to ensure that this understanding is taken into account when planning the child’s education.
It is important to note that no child can be seen individually without parental permission.
What is special about Binoh educational psychology?
- Binoh has a team of EPs so each EP is in a position to consult with colleagues
- We are part of a multi-professional team and are able to consult with or refer on to our colleagues working in different disciplines
- We work with the Jewish community, and are therefore able to work in a culturally sensitive way
- We work closely with the Jewish schools and have a good working relationship with many of them. This enables us to familiarise ourselves with the context in which children’s difficulties arise
- We are a multilingual team, speaking Hebrew, French, and Yiddish. This enables us to assess children for whom one of these is a first language
- Binoh has established strong links with the local London Boroughs, and we work in close cooperation with them
- Children can be seen either at school, or at one of our Centres, or if parents prefer, at home
