Buckets & Spades is Norwood’s overnight short-break service for children and young people with physical and learning disabilities aged up to 19. Buckets and Spades is registered with Ofsted. Often our children have additional needs associated with autistic spectrum conditions or challenging behaviour as well as a range of medical conditions.
Our service provides one-to-one support for every child and young person at all times, regardless of their needs. We support families by providing round-the-clock high quality care by trained, experienced and dedicated staff. We provide an excellent purpose built environment offering children and young people the opportunity to enjoy activities that they may not otherwise be able to access, and the chance to acquire skills that equip them for life as they grow and become young adults.
As a facility, we are constantly striving to improve and develop with the needs of the children and young people who use our service. Recently, we refurbished two bathrooms, and installed a specialist bath, and we hope to refurbish another bathroom.
We have recently secured funding to build a sensory room within the facility which will allow us to support the children and young people in their development.
Feedback from the children and young people who use our services, as well as from their families, is important to us as we plan the future development of our service. We use methods such as specially adapted questionnaires and picture cards to make sure we get the views of the children and young people, as well as parents and carers, so that we can be responsive as a provider.
