We have three Children and Family Centres which offer a wide range of services:
- The Kennedy Leigh Centre in Hendon brings together early education, childcare, health and family services.
- The Somers Children & Family Centre is in Hackney, East London, and specialises in accommodating the needs of the large Jewish community that is present in that area. It is also the location for Wellbeing at Bearsted; a partnership between Norwood and the City and Hackney Primary Care Trust, which provides expert health care advice.
- The Leonard Sainer Children & Family Centre in Redbridge provides a multi-disciplinary service to the local community. Alongside the services it provides for children and families, the Leonard Sainer centre provides support for adults with learning disabilities.
Norwood provides Special Education such as:
- The inclusive Norwood Nursery for children with and without learning disabilities who are aged between two and five-years-old.
- Binoh which provides specialist multi-disciplinary professional support to children with additional and/or special education needs.
- The Hope Centre specialises in developing thinking skills in children aged 3–19 years, and gives students the tools to become confident and independent learners.
- Jewish Community Secondary School (JCoSS), provides a special education through the Pears Special Resource Provision (PSRP).
We also provide Recreational Services for children and young people with disabilities:
- Buckets & Spades Lodge Norwood’s overnight short-break service for children and young people with physical and learning disabilities aged up to 19.
- Unity our recreational service for children and young people with disabilities who are aged between 5 and 18 years-old.
Family Support
The Family Support service has teams based in each of our three Children & Family Centres covering the areas of East, North and North-West London. They provide advice and support for adults and families with and without learning disabilities, and help guide people towards the most appropriate services for them.
Adoption
Norwood Adoption Society (NAS) was established in 1990 to find permanent homes for Jewish children being looked after by Local Authorities in the UK. NAS now works with children and families from many different religions, cultures and ethnic groups, and is both a domestic and international adoption agency.
Useful Links
In addition to the above services, Norwood are pleased to support the below organisations which are totally independent of Norwood.
The Jewish Marriage Council (JMC) is a not-for-profit organisation set up to provide sensitive support for Jewish individuals, couples and families. The Jewish Marriage Council run a counselling service for individuals and couples; their qualified and experienced counsellors work with all issues from relationship issues to family issues. No-one is turned away through lack of funds.
Special Families
This group is open to parents, grandparents and siblings of a special needs family member. Special Families is run by parents and all members have a child or young adult with Special Needs. We hold 6 meetings a year around North West London, some with a speaker and some as informal gatherings to just meet and chat - plus we run other support services including an e-group that allows the fast sharing of information, friendship and support. Don't feel you're alone and don't be shy. Join us today.
