Our homes are located in the heart of local communities in London, mainly within Redbridge, Harrow and Barnet, and at Ravenswood Village in the Berkshire countryside. Residential homes are staffed 24 hours a day.
We also have supported services where adults live slightly more independently. The level of support for these services ranges from 24 hours a day through to a few hours each week, depending on the needs of the individual. The Supported Housing & Outreach service provides support for adults who live on their own or with their family in London.
We aim to maximise opportunities for choice and independence as far as possible and to enable individuals to choose the kind of lifestyle they would like, including having their own tenancy or shared ownership. We provide a Jewish environment and whilst we do offer support to non-Jewish service users, all our residential homes observe kashrut, Shabbat and the various festivals.
Support in our homes
Each individual receives support according to their assessed need, and this will cover areas such as help with daily living skills, dealing with benefits and correspondence, or accessing facilities within the community.
We enable adults to plan their own support using a person centred approach which focuses on their desired outcomes. Our support staff work very closely together with local community services and professional bodies to ensure that each person has access to appropriate healthcare and assistance. They also work hard to ensure that adults are fulfilled and active in their daily life and have access to a variety of social and leisure opportunities.
To access any of these services, each individual needs to be registered with a local authority as having a learning disability, and referrals need to have a community care assessment carried out by their local authority.
Norwood is registered with the Commission for Social Care Inspectorate as a Residential and Domiciliary Care Provider, which means that the services are subject to regular inspection. In addition to this, the local authority Supporting People purchasers have a Quality Assurance Framework, and all services are regularly reviewed to ensure that their standards are met.
