Today, Ravenswood is home to 140 people with learning disabilities, living in 14 different residencies from purpose built homes and bungalows to flats and bedsits, all funded by their local authority.
Residents’ levels of ability vary greatly. All, however, are encouraged to live life to the full and achieve personal growth and maximum independence with the support of our 317 professional care workers.
Its resources are excellent. Set in over 120 acres of Berkshire countryside, Ravenswood houses an indoor hydrotherapy pool, a coffee shop, dance and art studios, riding school and a working garden all of which are developed to meet the needs of residents.
Recreational, leisure and sporting activities are equally well catered for. Ravenswood can even boast its own medal winning Special Olympics team. Many residents form tandem teams and compete in sponsored bike rides, both here and abroad, organised by the Norwood Challenges department.
All residents are offered work-related training programmes with the appropriate levels of support. These take place within Ravenswood and out in the community with local shops and businesses.
Local colleges provide further education opportunities. Each student is given an individual learning programme and offered the most convenient method to study, either at home, via the onsite educational facilities or at colleges.
Residents come from many different backgrounds, and all are encouraged to follow their own faith and culture. However as the majority is Jewish, Ravenswood observes kashrut, Shabbat and the festivals and has its own on-site synagogue.
Ravenswood is an extremely positive place. The happy atmosphere and the genuine sense of community touches visitors.
