'Amazing' Norwood supporters raise more than £155,000 at elite property awards dinner

Some of the biggest names in the UK property sector were recognised at our YN Property Awards Dinner at the Hilton Park Lane hotel on Thursday, 1 February.

The event, which saw 450 guests from across the industry, raised £155,000. Introducing the evening, YN Property Committee Co-Chair David Jacobsen said the YN Property Awards Dinner was “without a doubt, THE event for young professionals in the property industry today”.

“[It is] a night where we come together to recognise some of the best and brightest young talent in our industry,” he continued.

“There is a striking parallel to be drawn between the property industry and Norwood. Just as building personal relationships and integration into a community are important to be a success in our chosen industry, they also sit at the core of all that Norwood does.

Having grown up with family members that struggle daily with severe learning disabilities, I have seen first-hand the enhancements that an organisation such as Norwood can bring to their lives through personal relationships and community.”

Guests themselves saw some of the outstanding work Norwood does in the community in Norwood’s appeal film. Following the film, Wayne Chodosh, whose son has autism and lives in Norwood’s Highview residence, spoke about his experiences with the charity.

“I realised that I wouldn’t be around forever, so I got in touch with Norwood to make plans for when me and my wife were no longer here,” he said. “And that was the start of what I call the ‘magic carpet ride’,” he said. “Norwood are amazing, when they came on board they dealt with social services – nobody trains you to deal with social services and we were drowning.”

He continued: “Now Jake is a success story. He’s living in a wonderful house in Edgware and he has a great life. That’s all because of Norwood and the support of all of you here tonight.”

Founded in 1795, Norwood is one of the UK’s oldest charities. So it is well placed to comment on the prince’s recent statement to the Charity Commission's annual public meeting where Prince William called on charities to “be open to collaborate, to share expertise and resources, to focus less on individual interests and more on the benefits that working together will bring.”
