Volunteers have always played a very important role and are an essential part of life in Norwood. There are approximately 700 placed volunteers across the 5 services. Without their support, hard work and commitment many of the activities could not run as they are.
The Volunteering Services Department role is to look after volunteers from the first enquiry to the volunteer’s placement on one of the sites. The Coordinators role is to make sure the volunteer is managed, supported, supervised and receives the appropriate training.
There are five Volunteer Co-ordinators that support volunteers and staff using volunteers across the five sites. For contact details, see the Contact a Volunteer Coordinator page.
Every volunteer has to go through a process before they can begin their role. It is the responsibility of the Volunteering Services to make sure as much as they can that the volunteer and service user is not at risk. The process follows best practice in safe recruitment: Interview, CRB check, References, Confidentiality Agreement and Training.
It is very important that we are able to match the right volunteer to the right role, to maximise on the person’s skills and make sure that it is what the service needs. Our volunteer database allows us to keep ‘skills information’ but it is important that the services give us as much information/detail of their requirements.
Norwood values volunteers and ensures that they are appreciated and managed in a way that reflects what they do for Norwood and its service users.
