Trusts & Foundations

The grants and donations that Norwood receives from Charitable Trusts and Foundations are part of our Major Donor programme.

These grants contribute to:

Child playing at UnityMaintaining Existing Services
Previous funds raised have gone towards our Family Support service, which receives no statutory funding, our Special Education services such as Binoh and Hope, and Unity, Norwood’s recreational group for children and young people with disabilities aged between five and 18. Funding has also been secured for Norwood’s Supported Employment service, which provides training and coaching to enable adults with disabilities to access paid employment.

Supporting New Services
‘In- Betweeners’ is one of the new services that was made possible through a grant from a Charitable Foundation. ‘In-Betweeners’ is a recreational group for young people with learning disabilities. The group caters for 16 to 25-year-olds and focuses on supporting young people to socialise with their peers while gathering new skills and sharing experiences to help them through their transition into adulthood. In addition, a recent grant from BBC Children in Need has meant it has been possible to set up a new Sunday club for young people ages 12 to 18.

Purchasing of Specialised Equipment
Specialist equipment funded through trustsA recent grant from Big Lottery Awards for All has allowed Norwood to launch an exciting assistive technology project which utilises specialist hand-held devices and software. This new technology aims to help those people with learning disabilities who may have problems performing day-to-day tasks independently. The versatile devices will support people with step-by-step voice and picture instructions so that they can learn and maintain skills which ultimately enable them to enhance their independence and live full and more integrated lives.

Vital Refurbishments and Capital Projects
Donations have also been used to build a new sensory room and refurbish the bathrooms at Buckets & Spades Lodge. Grants have also facilitated the installation of a new adventure playground for Unity at the Kennedy Leigh Children and Family Centre. New building projects, such as The Tager Centre for adults with autism and The Pamela Barnett Centre for adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities, both based at Ravenswood in Berkshire, were made possible by donations from Charitable Trusts and Foundations.

A dedicated team of fundraisers work closely with Charitable Trusts to ensure that their gifts make a real difference.
